Our Mission

Where women and girls lead

Established in 2015, WIIN is active in Connecticut, California, West Africa, and East Africa (Nairobi, Kenya). Our work centers women and girls through youth and arts programming, community services, and advocacy at the United Nations.

I

Creating Space

Rooms, stages and platforms where women and girls can be seen, heard and supported.

II

Elevating Voices

Amplifying lived experience through storytelling, the arts, research and policy advocacy.

III

Investing in Human Capital

Building skills, leadership and opportunity through fellowships and community programs.

Our Work

What we do

From classrooms in Nigeria to the halls of the United Nations, our programs meet people where they are.

Youth & arts programming

An arts and culture program for children in Nigeria, now in its fifth session, with dance, music and drama groups. In California, our Festac Baby project, supported by a California Arts Council grant, offers Creative Youth Development workshops and public productions honoring the 50th anniversary of FESTAC ’77.

African-centered literature

In 2021, our founder authored 57 children’s books in a single year, creating the Princess Naku cultural and literary journey for young readers.

UN & policy advocacy

Research and advocacy at the United Nations, including preparation for the 71st Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, and proposals to state leaders, including an African Continental Studies framework for public education.

Immigrant & asylee support

We are establishing an Immigration & Asylee Support Clinic offering client intake, resource guides, and connections to legal and social services.

Fellowship program

Graduate-level fellows in non-profit governance, human rights, immigration advocacy and journalism produce research, policy materials and original published work.
